Börse Stuttgart

Germany’s retail investor exchange

Börse Stuttgart is the retail investor exchange and Germany’s leading floor-trading hub. Retail investors can trade equities, securitised derivatives, bonds, investment fund units and participation certificates – with the highest quality of execution and at the best prices. Stuttgart is Germany’s market leader in corporate bonds, and European market leader in assetbacked securities.

In Börse Stuttgart‘s hybrid market model trading experts are integrated into the electronic trading process. They provide additional liquidity when needed, and ensure fast and reliable execution of orders. Investor protection and transparency regulations are ensured by all the regulatory and control mechanisms of a public stock exchange. In Stuttgart private investors have access to a free client hotline and wide range of information and educational resources.

With a trading volume of more than EUR 80 billion across all asset classes in 2016, Börse Stuttgart is ranked tenth among European stock exchanges. A total of 77 trading participants from several European countries are linked to Börse Stuttgart. Around 300 employees work at the stock exchange.

Ground-breaking ideas for the benefit of retail investors are a tradition at Börse Stuttgart. Since the introduction of the best price principle in 1995, the market price is geared to the relevant reference markets, so investors are guaranteed the best price available in the market. In 1997, Stuttgart was the first exchange in Germany to establish the best size principle: the minimum order size was reduced to one unit, thus opening securities trading to retail investors.

Founded in 1861, the stock market contributes greatly to the development of Stuttgart as a financial centre. The exchange’s origins go back to the Industrial Revolution in the 19th century. After 1945, as a regional stock exchange, Börse Stuttgart contributed greatly to the German economic miracle in the south-west of the country. Since 2008, Börse Stuttgart has been increasingly active in other countries as well, for instance on the Scandinavian market.
