Lotto Baden-Württemberg: Luck is our motto

Fortune’s moods are unfathomable. And no-one can predict whom Lady Luck will favour. So it’s good to know that her helpers are in the background reliably turning the lottery wheel. Secure and proper conduct of the different lotteries and stakes are of prime importance to Staatliche Toto-Lotto GmbH Baden-Württemberg. The staff of the lottery head- quarters at Stuttgart’s Nordbahnhof organise luck and freely admit: “Not everything we do is left to chance.”

As a state-run subsidiary, over the past 60 years Lotto Baden-Württemberg has become a modern-style service provider. The 190-strong headquarters’ staff is responsible, among other games, for the classic LOTTO 6aus49 and the European lottery, Eurojackpot. The company’s gaming products are available all over, at around 3,250 lottery sales points, on the Internet at lotto-bw.de, and via the official LottoBW app.

And what happens to the losers’ pool? Everyone in Baden-Württemberg benefits in one way or another. The majority of Toto-Lotto’s net proceeds go to the state’s lottery fund which supports specific public sport, art, culture, conservation, and social projects.

Thus, in the course of the years, around eight billion euros have been amassed in subsidies. Funded projects include the Olympic Games bases, the ski-jump in the Black Forest, and sports halls for clubs. Some top works of art, by Pablo Picasso or Edouard Manet for instance, grace the state’s art collections. Even major orchestras like the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra benefit. Wether the Hohenzollern Castle or the famous “Sauschwänzlebahn” in Wutachtal – lottery funding is an important pillar of building conservation, and also of care of the elderly, the building of nursing and residential homes, or support at village level.
