Some 55 airlines fly passengers to around a hundred national and international destinations – and bring guests from these cities to Stuttgart.
10.6 million passengers annually: Stuttgart Airport celebrated a new record in 2016. Some 55 airlines currently link Baden-Württemberg’s capital to one hundred national and international destinations. The economy draws the benefit. Stuttgart Airport is a vital locational factor especially for Baden-Württemberg, one of the highest exporters among the federal states. Air traffic also boosts the local economy. In recent years, the FSG has built Stuttgart Airport Bus Terminus (SAB) and the SkyLoop office building, in which the accounting firm EY (Ernst & Young) has its German headquarters.

Direct international flights
With around 1,000 employees, Flughafen Stuttgart GmbH (FSG) is the largest company at the airport. Jobs at the airport are varied: from flight controllers to taxi drivers, a total of 10,000 people are employed here. The FSG not only bears responsibility as an employer. Under the umbrella brand “fairport STR” the airport operator pools its sustainability activities in the fields of economy, social welfare and the environment.
An important remit of the airport company is to link land- and air-based traffic so that people in the region enjoy the best possible connections. The FSG therefore intends to extend the airport further and turn it into an intermodal transport hub. The focus is on three infrastructure projects: the already completed building of the new Stuttgart Airport Bus Terminus (SAB), the extension of the U6 light-rail line and the Stuttgart–Ulm rail project.
