Looking from the past into the future
Travel along the world’s dream routes in a day. Covering over 6,000 square metres, the Erwin Hymer Museum permanent exhibition narrates the culture and technical history of caravanning seen through the eyes of adventurers, pioneers and travellers. Visitors immerse themselves in the history of the pioneers, and discover exciting things from the areas of technology, development, production and design. The interactive exhibition invites visitors to join in for a close-up view. A colourful parade of more than 80 historical vehicles, caravans, campers, cars, motorcycles and many more from around the globe, from mini to mega, some quirky and rare, spark memories, tell stories and invite admiration.

The exhibits form part of a thrilling changeable world of experience, turning a visit to the museum into a journey to dream destinations of mobile holidaying.
Every age has its own dream destinations, from classics like the famous Route 66 or the giant breakers of the Atlantic, fascinating icescapes in the far North or lovely Baltic campsites. The urge to explore new horizons is irresistible.

What will travel look like in the future?
The new exhibition area “Future Route” changes continuously and shows current visions of holidaying and mobility. Travelling has always been inspired by visions and dreams. Many of these ideas from the past have become reality. Even if the flying car is still a figment of our imagination, multimedia cockpits and fully automated toilets in campers are real. New technical achievements spark the imagination. The future begins with a current study or prototype of a recreational vehicle as the interface between present and future. They are models on the brink of realisation or studies that will perhaps always remain a vision. The “Panorama of the Future” presents a cross-section of themes on holidaying, mobility, architecture, technology and design. The future radar asks families how and where they would like holiday in the future. R-WIN 4.0, the mini helpmate, assists visitors in creating the mobile holiday of the future.
