The region around Stuttgart is home to over 200 publishing houses, which issue about 300 periodicals and 5,000 book titles annually. After Munich and Berlin, Stuttgart boasts the third largest concentration of publishing houses in Germany. Wellknown traditional publishing houses such as Reader’s Digest, Kosmos, Thienemann, Hatje, MairDumont, Motor Presse Stuttgart and Klett have their headquarters in Stuttgart, as do small specialised firms such as Fink, and the Esslingen publishing house J.F. Schreiber, one of the oldest publishers of children‘s books in Germany. Stuttgart is the home of the German Bible Society publishing house and the German apothecary publishing house. The daily newspapers Stuttgarter Zeitung and Stuttgarter Nachrichten offer current news and include incorporated local papers like Fellbacher Zeitung, Leonberger Kreiszeitung, Kornwestheimer Zeitung, Blick vom Fernsehturm or Filder Zeitung. An overview of the publishing industry in the Stuttgart Region is provided in the annual guide published by Wirtschaftsförde- rung Stuttgart (Stuttgart Economic Development Department) which lists the roughly 200 publishing houses from the region.
