The automotive industry is in throes of change. Innovative suppliers are needed to secure Germany’s pole position in the long run. What is special about ElringKlinger: the company delivers the right solutions for all kinds of drive systems – no matter whether conventional combustion engines, hybrid, battery- or fuel cell-driven electric cars.

Since “Dieselgate” nothing is the same as before – and that also applies to Elring-Klinger. The company from Dettingen/Erms is a traditional automotive supplier which made a name for itself with cylinder head gaskets. However, electric cars have no use for them. ElringKlinger drew the consequences early on, and now delivers solutions unrelated to the drive system. There are lightweight plastic components, or products from the battery technology sector and electromobility, like cell contact modules for lithium ion batteries. They are series-produced in an all-in-one customised format and are used in the electric cars of a premium Southern German car maker.

Recently, in October last year, the company acquired a strategic holding in hofer AG – and also a majority shareholding in the subsidiary hofer powertrain products GmbH. The roles are clearly assigned: hofer Group invests its system expertise in the development of the drivetrain and measuring, testing and assembly systems, while ElringKlinger AG uses its skills in the further development and execution of innovative ideas through to series production.
