Jewellery you can recognise with your eyes closed – the Wellendorff Rope is the brand’s most famous piece, fascinating with a blend of apparent opposites: its hard metal has become as soft as silk. Eva Wellendorff described the feel of it next to the skin “as a caress”. Wellendorff is said to have invented the third dimension in creating jewellery. Two dimensions are customary: design and worth. The jewellery manufactory has succeeded in introducing a third dimension – that of feel. The rope feels soft and more caressing than any other piece of jewellery, lending it an iconic look that can be worn every day as a classic ornament.

The idea

Hanspeter Wellendorff is the creator of the silky-soft rope. As a child, his wife Eva admired her grandmother’s heavy velvet curtains which were tied by silky ropes. She loved the feel of them slipping through her fingers. Later on, she asked her husband to make her a necklace that felt just as smooth, and silky. After two years of research, the very first Wellendorff Rope was created in 1977 and has now delighted women around the world for 40 years.

Inside each separate strand of a Wellendorff Rope is a “soul” of 18-carat gold, which provides both the stability and unmistakeable flexibility.
